Rehearsal Schedule 9-17

Dear Singers
I look forward to our next rehearsal. We sound good and the energy of our performance is already excellent. I just love directing this choir!
Workshop October 5
The workshop runs from 9 – 3 on Saturday, Oct. 5. and will be held at the 1st Presbyterian Church. The church is located at 1615 Clark Ave in Ashland. Continue south on Siskiyou Blvd. past the university and you will see it on the right.
This time provides us the opportunity to explore many musical things in more depth including background on the pieces and their composers. We will have the opportunity to spend extra time on our voices with a somewhat extended warmup time. We will also be able to run longer sections of the music to get the sense of the true flow.
Most importantly, though, is the chance to get to know each other better. We will play a fun, non-threatening game which might give you a chance to learn about what an interesting, intelligent bunch of people you sing with! We will have a social time with snacks at 9 AM (and, yes, donuts!). Please bring your own lunch. It will be a great time.
Change of Schedule NEXT week
To rehearse more efficiently we will split some of our rehearsals into sectionals. If you look at the second movement of the Bernstein you will see that parts are divided very clearly between the Soprano-Alto group and the Tenor-Bass group. Therefore, we will begin rehearsal on Sept. 24 with tenors and basses only. Sopranos and altos will join us at 7:40 PM. Sopranos and altos need to do your own warmup or come at 7:00, enjoy the warmups and then listen quietly.
First Soprano Redistribution
The 2nd movement of the Bernstein has an “echo section” for sopranos only in which the majority of sopranos need to sing Soprano 1 making the echo group, Soprano 2, sound like an echo. (makes sense). Please sing these parts for the 2nd movement:
  • Soprano split in Bernstein 2
  • Sop 1:
    • Chandrika Galbacs
    • Inga Leed
    • Kathleen Finnegan
    • Shira Mendes de Leon
    • Victoria King
    • Marilyn Reppert
    • Celia Canty
    • Robin Griffiths
    • Judy Griggs
    • Amanda May
    • Kate Sipfle
  • Sop 2: everyone else
Another Rehearsal Recording Option – Carus Choir App
We have used the Carus Choir app before for major works. Their library is more limited and it actually costs money to use it. However it has some definite advantages:
  • You will listen to an actual choir singing the piece. This gives you help with words as well as notes
  • You can adjust the speed of the recording
  • You will hear your part louder than others
The Vivaldi Gloria is available through them, but unfortunately not the Bernstein. A link to a full explanation of the program is below:
A Hard Habit to Break
I love it when people send me emails to ask questions, comments, or messages. However, it would be very helpful to me if you would use my new email, director@siskiyousingers.org, when you want to communicate with me. I am trying to keep all the Siskiyou Singers info in one place.
See you Tuesday!
