Dear Singers
I am so excited about our performances. We sound really good, both choir and orchestra. I expect that our audience will be moved! (as will we!)
Water Bottles
You may bring a water bottle on stage for this concert and concerts in the future IF (and that’s a big “if”) you buy the Siskiyou Singers approved water bottle and use it on stage. The cost is $5 and will be available at the Friday rehearsal from Andrew Klein.
Soprano Sectional
Sopranos, please check the roadmap for Blackbird. We will then rehearse at 6:45 at SOU. We will meet in the Green Room (classroom across the hall).
Notes
Bernstein 1
- Sounded good
Bernstein 2
- Please be aware that “ch” is not the same in Hebrew as it is in English. If you have a hard time remembering that, please go through your part and put a big “K” over each occurance of “ch”. It is not accurate but it is way better than an English “ch”.
- A specific spot: mm 47 – 50 “Shi-v’ – te –
chaKA“
- A specific spot: mm 47 – 50 “Shi-v’ – te –
- It is crucial that no one is singing through the rest in m 146. If you are having trouble counting the 10 measures on your own, please stop singing early!
Bernstein 3
- More passion at mm 35 – 36. “My soul is even as a weaned child” i.e. My spiritual self is not a baby anymore–I am mature.
- Then, of course, m 49 and following are a musical echo of this and should be sung softly (p). “Henceforth and forever more…”
- The ending sounds transcendent!
Vivaldi 1
- I may have said this before: “GL – oh – ri – ah” with a round “oh” and a flipped “r”
- “EEN”
Vivaldi 2
- Just marvelous!
Vivaldi 12
- It is the march of triumph to the end!
Boogie Fever!
- Fun! You look great!
Blackbird
- I know we have neglected it a bit. Bring it back–it is a wonderful piece.
- Attached is a copy of my score with the first ending written in. “First ending” means you only do that music the first time. Please write this in your score (if you haven’t already).
Baba Yetu
- Wow, Sean!
Lullabye
- We will spend a little time on Friday if we need it.
Hey Jude
- Many people have come up to me with a worried look and said, “you know the audience will probably sing along with us.” That is what I want and will be thrilled if they do, but I will not encourage it until the “Na na” section.
- After all this work, I predict that many audience members will say, MY FAVORITE PIECE WAS HEY JUDE! Just smile and enjoy it and know that the whole concert is wonderful!
See you tomorrow.

Friday Tech-Runthrough Schedule
This rehearsal takes a while because it is not just about singing the music. We also have to deal with movement on stage and balance in the house.
Very Quick Warmups (Please do most of your warmups at home. You may also warm up on your own when you arrive (early). Find a private spot, or warm up on stage with all the orchestra members. Lip and tongue rolls are great for this!)
