Dear Singers
We are making great progress! There were some bumps in the road this week, but we are being proactive to smooth them out for next week.
Program List
You will find the list attached to this email. You can run off that PDF or refer to the board I will bring next rehearsal. Congratulations to our special soloists!
Soprano Sectionals
We will meet Friday 2 pm at Katharine’s house and Monday 2 pm at the church. I think these rehearsals are pretty important. We will solve these problems!
Some notes…
Notes
Kasar mie la gaji
- Altos, m 3: please do not nasalize “uh”. Make it nice and open.
- Sopranos, m 5: sing up the scale 1-2-3 from D inside your head to find your pitch
- The gradual cresc. peaks at m 12, beat 7 and then a dim. after that
- m 15: mp, m 21 mf, m 23 f, m 29 ff, m 31 p
- Please make sure the last two bars are not just memorized, but habit! Write something in your score so you don’t turn your page.
Break, Break, Break
- Altos at the beginning: Don’t go into auto-pilot. Keep counting (m 7)
- SA m 19: The pickup needs to be quick–push it!
- Don’t forget: faster at 48
Little Birds
- pp at 30, molto cresc. at 36
- I have been experimenting with folding the piece of paper. It does change the sound, but still looks like someone waving around a piece of paper.🙂 On the other hand, the paper “birds” will be something our audience has never seen before, so we have a surprise element…
Lark in the Clear Air
- Basses have a great part (but not easy)
- notice mm 35 – 36 it does not go directly down the scale
- B2, mm 50 – 67 are tricky. Give it another look.
- Tenors and B1 mm 60 – 67: Work on passionate but not bumpy (or another word would be “pushed”). It should always be legato
Home On the Range
- Nice job, John!
- It seems to be the intro (mm 4 – 17) that seems to be the problem. Check notes but, more importantly, COUNT.
