Notes 10-15

Dear Singers
That was a grind-’em-out rehearsal. We accomplished a tremendous amount despite not finishing the list. We will, of course, pick up the work on “It’s the Most Wonderful Time…” and “Boogie Fever” next week. Easy! Thanks for all your preparation.
Some notes…
Notes
Bernstein 1
  • m 10 count “1- 2-3-4-5-AND!”
  • mm 14 – 21 T and B really need to take another look at these measures. BTW, do not take mp too seriously. The division of parts automatically does that.
  • m 83 S2 sing alto note (C)
Bernstein 2
  • m 32 S2 remember that you do not have to act like an echo. Sing a nice mf. The number of people singing will take care of the echo idea.
  • m 47 S2 cutoff on 3. Join the rest of the group in 49
  • m 63 SA cutoff on 2. There is no rit.
  • TB – practice words separately and repeatedly. This is the biggest difficulty in this movement! I will make my own vow not to go too fast!
  • m 102 and following: SA follow the breaths written into the music already. I will not be helping you with these, but they are important
Bernstein 3
  • m 60 to the end. This is a difficult section. The key is to keep it energized. One trick is to put a gentle pulse on each quarter note division of the note. In other words, “Hi – hi – hi – hi – hi – hi – neh – heh – ma – hah- hah – hah to – hoh – hoh – hoh – hoh – hov”. Another trick is to use the imagination: there is a golden thread extending out of your forehead to the back of the auditorium.
Baba Yetu
  • memorize: baba yetu, yetu li-yem-bin-gu-ni-yetu yetu amine, baba yetu yetu li-ye-m – ji na lako e li tu ku zwe
