President’s Message Week 9

Hello Siskiyou Singers!

Well, we’re heading down the home stretch for our two spring concerts in just under one month from now. Ticket sales 🎟️ and Marketing with our posters and postcards are in full swing. And I assume everyone is sending out an email message to their list of contacts encouraging people to come see us perform.

I hope you’ve found, as I have, that each time I practice a piece at home it seems much more familiar and easier to sing with growing confidence that the more difficult sections are getting better and smoother. It’s a good feeling when you start to have the technical aspects of the music more “under your belt” and it begins to seem natural to express the meaning of the lyrics and flow of the ideas the composer wants the piece to convey. Think of it as “painting an auditory picture” to present to our audience in real time with each performance.

Posters and Postcard Distribution
If you haven’t already done so, please check out the poster packets that Sally Peterson will have on the pews behind us at rehearsal and see which ones are near where you live so you can help distribute them throughout the valley. If you know of some location that would be good to place a poster that is not on her lists, take one there and ask if it would be okay to post it. Be sure to check off the ones you’ve successfully delivered and make changes, additions, deletions, etc., on the distribution information sheet that is attached to the packet. You will return the sheet to Sally when you’re done.

Concert Dress
Be sure to check the concert dress descriptions and double check that you have the items you need for the performances. If you are in need of any items, please ask your section leader for assistance and we will be sure to help you find them. The concert dress guidelines are on the back of the bright green sheet handed out in your music packet and you can find them on our website as well. They are located in the Members section in the Siskiyou Singers Handbook and near the bottom of the page Concert Dress Rules. Website  siskiyousingers.org    Members password  silentnight

On Stage Water
If you want to be able to sip water 💧 🥤 during a performance, you will need to use the official Siskiyou Singers water bottle. They are available for purchase for $5 at most rehearsals and in the future, at our registration times each term. Be sure to label them with your name and only hand wash them. They will melt and deform in a dishwasher.

Riser Volunteers
Thank you to all those who’ve signed up for setting up and taking down risers. I may only need one or two more volunteers and will be asking again during announcements. The week before the concerts, I send an email reminder and other information to all volunteers.

Concert Ushers
We need four concert usher volunteers for each concert to hand out programs and help with any seating issues. Our board member, Carol Lambie, is the coordinator for this and may be contacting previous usher volunteers soon for help again. If you know of anyone not involved in our concert performances that might like to usher, please let me know. The ushers will attend the performances for free.

Box Office Manager
Another easy volunteer job we need someone to do is handing out Will Call tickets and selling tickets at the door to our audience members who need them. Of course, singers can’t do this, so a family member or friend would be great. Let me or Cynthia Tank, our Concert Manager, know if you can refer a possible volunteer. They also are welcome to enjoy our concerts for free.

Questions, Comments, Concerns
You can always contact your section leader or me for assistance you may need or for any specific choir related issues. We will do our best to help.
