President’s Message Week 6

Hello Siskiyou Singers!

Just a couple of things to mention this week.

Consideration for Other Singers
Please don’t wear scented products of any kind, even deodorant.Other singers may have allergies, and we are working in close quarters. We have a tenor member who had to leave rehearsal at the break last week due to a reaction to something in the air around them and it’s now the third time it’s happened to them.Turn off cell phones and other handheld devices during rehearsals.Listen to the conductor during rehearsals. When someone asks Mark a question, don’t answer for him. Let Mark answer the question. Avoid conversations with your fellow singers.Enjoy your time with us. We pride ourselves on being a friendly group.Camaraderie is encouraged before and after rehearsals and during the break.

Mixed Seating Arrangement
As Mark mentioned the last couple rehearsals, our next big step is to learn to sing in a mixed seating arrangement that takes us out of our sections and places us within small groups so we are singing with all four parts together. Mark will be experimenting with seating that he feels gives the choir a much more blended and fuller sound for the audience, which enhances our overall performance. Please talk to Mark if you feel you need another member of your section near you or you have other special needs with this type of seating arrangement.

For singers who have never done this before, it can be a little scary at first. It means that we all really need to know our parts. After some experience, most will realize that it is very doable and quite satisfying to be able to harmonize with the other three parts. Keep an open mind and ear and I think you will agree. Siskiyou SIngers has done this a lot for past concerts and it begins to feel like the natural thing to do. So… keep up the excellent work on practicing at home to know the notes and your part as well as you can and enjoy it!

Keep up the good work!
