President’s Message Week 5

Hi Siskiyou Singers,

Happy winter 🌧️ ☔️  At least we’re receiving lots of precious fresh water and snowpack up in the mountains and not having to deal with snow and ice down in the valley. Also, lots of spring flowers and trees are beginning to blossom 🌷 🌸 with many more to come!

Program Ad Sales Manager Needed
I’m still hoping one of you will volunteer for this important job.
It involves basically being the coordinator between singer members selling ads for our spring program, collecting the completed contracts and managing a spreadsheet with the contract details. It’s only for the rest of this term so you’ll be done with it by April 18th. I’ll have the job description and a copy of the ad contract form we use with me at rehearsal Tuesday.
Please let me know if you are willing to help us with this necessary task as soon as possible.

Rehearsal Break Announcements
Our announcements before we have our 10 minute break during rehearsals are meant to be only for our choir related information. We’ve had a longstanding policy to not have announcements about other community events for two main reasons. We try our best to be respectful of everyones’ time at rehearsals. There is not enough time for multiple announcements that don’t pertain to the functions of our choir and most people will not retain the information for it to be effective. What we do instead is ask those who would like the choir members to know about another performance or event to please give the details to the president (which may include a graphic ad) for placement in an email to share with the choir. We also will not share events that directly compete with our rehearsal and concert times.

Educational Outreach
It’s not too late to sign up to sing for and with 3 different high school choirs.
The first of two rehearsals is on April 7th.
This promises to be a really fun and rewarding program to participate in. You’ll be singing two great pieces from our spring concert 2024 and your audience will be high school choral students.  The students will sing a couple pieces for us and then everyone will sing a piece together. There are 2 rehearsals and 3 performances at different schools.
(From Sally Peterson)

Siskiyou Singers Educational Outreach Program will be happening this April. You can email me at sgpeterson1@msn.com to sign up. I’ll also have the physical signup sheet and general information sheet available at the next few rehearsals. Music is available. It’s really rewarding and enjoyable; I hope you’ll consider joining us.

Sectional Rehearsals
Please try to attend your section’s special rehearsal with Mark focusing on particularly difficult and challenging passages of the pieces we’re singing this term. It’s a valuable experience that will help your self confidence and the choir as a whole! Your section leader will schedule this rehearsal and give you all the details. Let them know if you will be attending or not.

Illness Policy Reminder
As you probably are already aware, there are numerous infectious contagious diseases circulating in our community this time of year 😮‍💨 🤧  🤒 🤢 🤮. If you are unfortunate enough to catch one and know it, please stay home and don’t attend rehearsals. You should only return to choir participation when you are no longer contagious and are feeling back to your normal health 😊 👍🏻.

Happy Singing!
