Dear Singers
As I said during the rehearsal, we already sound good. I am very happy to be able to enjoy this great music-making with you.
Bandlab notes
To reiterate info from last night, Bandlab links are at the bottom of this email and also available from the website. Password: “silentnight”. There is a great tutorial for its use on the website.
One of the difficulties with the program is that only one person can work on a particular piece at a time. You can tell whether someone else is there by looking at the circular icons in the upper right hand corner when you get to the actual Studio View (the page with the multi-colored bands). if there is one icon you’re good–it represents you. If there are two, someone beat you to it. Come back later or work on a different piece. As I promised, I will provide alternate versions of each piece this week.
Some notes…
Notes
The Blue Bird
- Please notice that the numbering for this piece is not standard. Normally a partial measure at the beginning of the piece would be measure zero–this time it is measure one.
- Phrasing: Cut offs m 5, beat 3; m 9, beat 3; then NO BREATH until m 20; m 23, beat 3; m 29, beat 3; m 35, basses beat 2, everyone else beat 3; basses m 37 beat 4, everyone else m 38 beat 1
- Please leave out the devil consonants (l, r, n) in mm 14 – 18 and also on the word “hill.” You may be surprised that, from my vantage point, the words are perfectly understandable. This may become permanent.
- Chandrika sounded very good on the first hint of her solo!
Kasar mie la gaji
- Excellent work on this piece!
- Please write in the beat numbers for page 2 as well
- Look at the quicker rhythms mm 9, 10, 13 for the basses, 11, 12 for the altos, and 14 for the tenors.
- The glissandi should be sung with good tone and attention to the starting and ending notes.
- The cut is from the end of 46 to the beginning of 90
