Dear Family and Friends,
Siskiyou Singers are preparing concerts for this season that will be very special and exciting. This year’s fall season will be different from others in the past.
On Saturday, December 14th, we will present our holiday gift to the community with “Sweet Songs of the Season,” a free family concert for kids of all ages Saturday, December 14th. The first of its kind celebration will begin at 3:00 PM at the Southern Oregon University Music Recital Hall, 450 South Mountain Avenue, Ashland. No tickets or reservations are needed, and parking is free.
Our regular winter concerts will be at SOU Recital Hall on Saturday, January 18th and Sunday, January 19th. Both concerts will begin at 3:00 PM.
“A Joyful Noise: From Bernstein to Beatles,” will feature two concert masterpieces accompanied by a full orchestra. Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria is a classic of choral literature, with good reason. This expressive baroque classic features a wonderful range of emotions and beautiful choral counterpoint. We will sing the choruses from the Gloria, and you will be sure to be humming these delightful melodies.
Following The Gloria, we will sing one of Leonard Bernstein’s most loved and most performed works, The Chichester Psalms. The major motion picture “Maestro”, a loose biography of Leonard Bernstein, one of the most significant classical musicians of the 20th century, featured parts of this great work. This exciting and powerful piece will delight you.
The second half of the concert is a sharp contrast to the first. We will sing pop classics from the last 50 years. We will sing wonderful choral arrangements of The Beatles, Billy Joel among others. This should provide a light dessert to the meat and potatoes of the first half. We will end the concert with choir and audience singing “Hey Jude”.
Tickets will be available on our website www.siskiyousingers.org. They are also available at Music Coop and Paddington Station in Ashland. If you are interested in tickets for our January performances, I would love to get tickets to you when they become available in December. Please reply to this email with which date and time and how many tickets you would like. You will thoroughly enjoy this wonderful concert.
With love and singing,
Sally Peterson
