Notes 11-12

Dear Singers

I missed you on Tuesday. I am happy to report tat my daughter is doing better than expected after her surgery. I look forward to seeing all of you next week.

I really appreciate being able to lean on two people with wonderful expertise. The rehearsal, from all reports, went very well. I will include Laurie’s comments below.

Notes from Laurie below (with my comments in italics)…

Well, first of all it was a delightful reunion with so many of these wonderful folks who I hadn’t seen for awhile!

I thought it went very well. I followed your rehearsal plan and made a timed schedule out of it and stuck to the plan so we did everything you asked.

Becca was wonderful and the choreography was simple and effective. There was a question on the pronunciation of “fever”, if it should be “fe-vah”, which I said YOU would decide. The answer is: fe – veh. The “eh” should be the same sound as the apostrophe in Hebrew (also the French schwa). If this is unclear, we’ll talk during rehearsal.

I think we fixed the “train wreck” spot in Bernstein and ran the section with the transition a few times.

I think “Lullaby” is the same arrangement I did with Chorale one of those year. It’s lovely and the balance was perfect. They were consistently late coming in after the half note phrase endings with only an 8th rest to breathe. I suggested fading the long note, and then moving the beginning 8th notes of the subsequent phrase with more of an “upbeat” feeling so the 8th notes don’t sound as stodgy. That seemed to help. Good idea!
