This year’s Siskiyou Singers Holiday Concert, “Alleluia! Songs of Joy & Inspiration,” is a musical celebration of the idea of “alleluia” as interpreted uniquely throughout history and around the world. The selections range from quiet awe to ecstatic joy and include Randall Thompson’s “Alleluia,” a classic a cappella piece of the choral literature; “Gate Gate,” a dance of joy by Brian Tate set to a Buddhist text; “Praise the Name of the Lord”, an arrangement of a Znamenny Chant from the Russian Orthodox liturgy by Sergei Rachmaninov; and explorations of “alleluia” by local composers William Ashworth and I’lana Cotton. The choir will be joined on several selections by the Siskiyou Violins. Concerts are at 7:30 p.m. Friday, December 8, and 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, December 9 and 10, at the SOU Music Recital Hall in Ashland.
