Siskiyou Singers invites experienced vocalists to audition for the choir’s Fall 2023 season.
Auditions will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 5 and again Sept. 12 at Ashland’s First United Methodist Church, 175 N. Main St. For details and to schedule an audition time, contact Director Mark Reppert at markreppert@gmail.com. Walk-in auditions are also welcome.
The season will culminate in December with three performances of a program titled “Ancient Melodies.” The concert will begin with two Spanish villancicos (Christmas carols) from the 16th century. These sprightly pieces will contrast with the beautifully pious “Ave Maria” by Josquin des Prez, Rachmaninoff’s “Bogoroditse Devo,” and “Videntes Stellam Magi” (“the wise men saw the star”) by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina.
The second half of the concert will include many holiday favorites, including “The Holly and the Ivy” in a heart-warming setting by Alice Parker; jazz arrangements of “Let It Snow,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” and “Winter Wonderland”; and “The Dreidel Song,” arranged by Larry Moore. As usual for our holiday program, the concert will conclude with a selected arrangement of “Silent Night” (this one by Ivo Antognini) and with “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” set by John Rutter.
Concerts will be Dec. 8, 9, and 10 at Southern Oregon University’s Music Recital Hall. Rehearsals will be Tuesdays at First United Methodist Church starting at 7:00 pm Sept. 5.
Proof of vaccination is not required. Masking is optional, and singers are asked not to attend rehearsals or performances if they are not feeling well.
