Fall 2019 Auditions

Siskiyou Singers, which completed a 10-day concert tour of Finland and the Baltic States in June, invites newcomers to audition for the choir’s Fall 2019 season. The season will culminate in three performances of the choir’s holiday program in December, centered on Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols for chorus and harp.

Auditions will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 3 and 10 at First United Methodist Church, 175 N. Main St. in Ashland.

Siskiyou Singers is a community choir emphasizing high-quality performances that are accessible and affordable to listeners of all ages and interests. The choir’s repertoire is diverse, encompassing both sacred and secular music from Renaissance madrigals to American spirituals, from 18th century masses to multi-cultural and modernist compositions of today.

The choir currently presents two concert programs per year (one in early December, another in late April/early May) at Southern Oregon University’s Music Recital Hall. The choir also performs annually at the Feast of Will, which marks the opening of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s outdoor season, and sings at various schools through its Educational Outreach program.

During its Baltics tour in June, Siskiyou Singers performed Butterfly, commissioned by local composer I’lana Cotton. The piece celebrates the life and legacy of Chiune Sugihara, a Japanese diplomat stationed in Lithuania at the dawn of World War II. In defiance of his own government, Sugihara approved visas for thousands of Jews fleeing the Nazis. Shortly before his death in 1986, the State of Israel honored Sugihara as one of the Righteous Among the Nations, honoring non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust.

In Spring 2020, Siskiyou Singers will present a special concert program in honor of Director Mark Reppert’s 10th year with the choir.
